The Slight Edge

It takes years of effort to become an overnight success!

There's a concept commonly referred to as "The Slight Edge" (from a book with title by author Jeff Olson) that can tip the scales of life highly in your favor.

He describes a simple, yet incredibly effective, technique of practicing simple daily disciplines to achieve your goals, and how a stark contrast can be seen over time when compared to someone practicing the opposite, simple errors in judgement.

For our purposes, we will apply this concept to physical health. You choose to walk 20 minutes a day. It's very easy to do (simple discipline) and also very easy NOT to do (error in judement) and your health results will not be immediate. But over time, those efforts will compound to produce positive health results.

Now consider the converse: instead of 20 minutes of walking a day, I eat 2 donuts per day. It's very easy to do and also very easy NOT to do, and when compounded over time, the results will be the exact opposite of what we actually want. It's a slow, boring process.

Fast forward six months, a year, two years. You continue walking 20 minutes a day while I continue eating 2 donuts per day. The long-term results can be astounding! While you're healthy and vibrant, I a turning into a blob with a host of health problems.

We can apply this concept to our finances, career, marriage, etc., etc. The bottom line is: the seemingly small choices we make every day can have a HUGE impact over time.

Choose simple daily disciplines over simple errors in judgement!
